The first of the Occupy Gainesville criminal trespassing trials will start the week of May 13, 2013

The first of the Occupy Gainesville criminal trespassing trials will start the week of May 13, 2013 at the Alachua County Courthouse Criminal Justice Center. Jury Selection for activist Annette Gilley will be Monday, May 13, and the Jury Trial will be held Wednesday, May 15. The Jury Trial is open to the public.

As of May 8, the State of Florida has dropped the cases of ten of the Occupy Gainesville activists that had been charged, for “Insufficient Identification of Defendant.” Those dropped cases are scanned in the PDF link below. The case of Lars Vala was also dropped, by oral announcement by the prosecutor in court at Trial Status Conference on Monday, May 6.

Almost two-dozen other Occupy Gainesville activists still face criminal charges.

This first trespass trial stems from members of Occupy Gainesville engaging in peaceful protest at Bo Diddley Community Plaza in downtown Gainesville the evening of October 13, 2011 into the morning of October 14, 2011. Annette Gilley was arrested and incarcerated in the Alachua County Jail. She has no criminal history.

Judge Thomas M. Jaworski is scheduled to preside at this first Jury Trial.
