RNC
Insanely overdone military style preparations continue to be announced almost daily. Now the Coast Guard is saying it will halt all pleasure boat traffic in the area and has announced they will board and search commercial ship traffic randomly. The police officer count is up to 4,000. Additional armored vehicles will be brought in from other Florida police forces that have obtained them thanks to Homeland Security. Pat F suggests we make a sign that says "This Is What A Police State Looks Like!" Maps of streets closed and maps of the march route are online and will be available at the Rally. The Committee to March is going to supply round-trip transportation from Gainesville to Tampa and back on Monday, Aug 27th for those who want to go just for the first day. Several Occupy Gainesville participants will be marching and several will also be working with Food Not Bombs to feed the protesters.

Overpass Light Project
OG plans to build a lighted protest sign similar to the ones designed by The Overpass Light Brigade. Materials are being priced and a member's workshop is available. It is thought that the letters will not be ready in time for the RNC. Nancy C thinks that is just as well, since they might get confiscated there anyway. It was agreed that the first sign will support the Move To Amend efforts against the Citizens United ruling and will say CORPORATIONS ARE NOT PEOPLE. We will make individual letters, so that other messages can be made later by making a few new letters.

Move To Amend
Nancy J says the local MTA group might agree to reimburse us for the cost of materials for the lighted sign and our groups could join to hold the sign on the 2 local overpasses. Annette will work on a materials price list to provide to their group. MTA will be meeting on Wednesdays at the Pride Center from 6-8pm.

Dollar Stamp Project
Through the MTA main website, Annette ordered a stamp that says "A Corporation Is NOT a Person, Money is not Speech, MoveToAmend.org." for stamping on one dollar bills. To support local Move To Amend efforts, we want to get as many of these in circulation as possible. Toast suggested that a sign be made and the stamp kept at the Occupy InfoBooth. A direct action to meet and stamp one dollar bills, then spread out to area merchants changing them for tens was also an idea. Whistler is sponsoring another stamp at $20.
Proposal - OG will buy 2 more stamps, at $20 each, to support this effort to get a maximum number of these bills in local circulation.
Consensus reached.

Dog Park
Pat F reports that in deference to the residents of Porter's Oaks community, who approve of the dog park, he will not launch a campaign to have it converted into shelter for the homeless people it displaced. He will, however, continue to point out how easily the city found it to spend $198,000 on this park while not moving forward with it's so-called plans to help the needy homeless residents of Gainesville.
