Occupy Gainesville Street Theatre skit explains how corporations came to be considered "people." This was during Occupy The Courts at Bo Diddley Community Plaza in Gainesville, FL on January 20th, 2012.
Gainesville Sun write up 1-20-12 -k Quote Dr. Cornel West: "The Occupy movement is "just fellow citizens who are sick and tired of having their voices pushed to the margins and sick and tired of too many poor and working people's precious lives being crushed, suffocated," he said. "And it doesn't have to be that way."
The cast of the street theatre skit met this evening in front of city hall for our rehearsal GA. We ran through the skit three times: first, to go over and refine stage directions; then two more times for practice and ironing out the details. We will meet tomorrow at 6:00 PM in Northeast Park, 400 NE 16th Ave. for a few more run-throughs to finalize things and to get used to acting with our corporate puppet. NOTE: there will also be a Direct Action GA to go over the plans and logistics for the other events on 20 January, in the plaza at 6:30.
Occupy Gainesville site has gone dark in protest of bills currently being considered in the US House and Senate. Called SOPA and PIPA,
these bills threaten to destroy the Internet as we know it.
The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA / H.R.3261) and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA / S.968) are a foothold for state and corporate censorship and a death knell for the free internet, complete with provisions for the Great Firewall of America and draconian measures to punish even the most trivial infringement on corporate copyright. Below is a short video from Fight for the Future explaining what this legislation would do.
